Stock Alerts ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use the Stock Alerts mobile application ("the App").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account
- Social login data: Email and name from Google, Apple, GitHub, or Microsoft when using social authentication
- Watchlists and alerts: Stock symbols, alert configurations, and preferences you create
- Support communications: Messages you send to our support team
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version
- Usage data: Features accessed, screens viewed, and interaction patterns
- Log data: Error logs and performance metrics for app stability
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Brokerage credentials or trading account details
- Financial account numbers or payment card details (handled by App Store / Google Play)
- Precise location data
- Contacts, photos, or other personal device data

3. Data Storage and Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- Passwords are salted and hashed using bcrypt (12 rounds) — we never store plain text passwords
- Authentication tokens are stored in device-encrypted storage (expo-secure-store) when available
- API communications use HTTPS encryption in transit
- Database access is restricted to authenticated server components only
- Rate limiting is applied to prevent brute-force attacks
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Third-party data providers: We send stock symbols to financial data APIs to retrieve market data. These providers do not receive your personal information.
- Authentication providers: When using social login, we exchange tokens with Google, Apple, GitHub, or Microsoft to verify your identity.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View your personal data through the App's profile screen
- Correct: Update your name and email in the App's settings
- Delete: Permanently delete your account and all associated data through the App's settings. Account deletion is irreversible and removes all data from our servers.
- Export: Request a copy of your data by contacting us
- Withdraw consent: Stop using the App at any time
6. Data Retention
- Active accounts: Data is retained as long as your account is active
- Deleted accounts: All data is permanently deleted immediately upon account deletion
- Password reset codes: Expire and are purged after 15 minutes
- Server logs: Retained for up to 30 days for debugging, then purged
7. Children's Privacy
Stock Alerts is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.
8. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services for market data and functionality:
- Financial data APIs (stock prices, earnings, dividends)
- SEC EDGAR (public SEC filings)
- OAuth providers (Google, Apple, GitHub, Microsoft) for authentication
- App Store / Google Play for subscription billing
Each service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies.
9. Cookies and Tracking
The Stock Alerts mobile app does not use cookies. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or analytics SDKs that track you across apps.
10. International Users
If you are accessing the App from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States where our servers are located. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what data we collect, the right to deletion, and the right to opt out of data sales. We do not sell personal information.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
